That it’s August and Mario Hermoso remains without a club is  concerning, and it almost certainly shouldn’t be the case.

The 29-year-old defender, who can play at centre-back or left-back, saw his Atletico Madrid contract expire at the end of June, although it had been thought the Spanish club were making efforts to keep him.

Hermoso instead wanted a new adventure, and for a while it seemed nailed on that he’d sign for Napoli. However, as often seems the case, the Italian club have dragged their feet and now there’s worry for the player’s agents.

AreaNapoli report representatives have offered the player to Aston Villa and West Ham, trying to tempt the Premier League clubs into signing the free agent.

Yet it doesn’t appear that either Aston Villa or West Ham have taken the bait yet, and Julen Lopetegui’s side are racing forward to complete a deal for Jean-Clair Todibo.

Monchi may have it under consideration for Aston Villa, but there’s certainly no concrete effort ongoing.

Therefore, it’s stated the representatives are trying again in Italy, with meetings scheduled with AC Milan and Inter Milan.
