AC Milan are looking less and less confident in their chase for Clement Lenglet.

Even though the player belongs to Barcelona, they’d need Aston Villa to give up on his loan season in England to get him signed in January, and that’s looking quite unlikely at this stage.

The latest update on this story comes from Milan News. With the Rossoneri having a 2-2 draw against Salernitana on Friday, they contacted journalist Paolo Bargiggia to talk about the potential reinforcements the club will sign.

The reporter claimed Lenglet is indeed one of the names on the Serie A side’s list, but it’s Aston Villa’s stance that’s expected to block the move.

“At this point, even if Tomori were to remain out of action for a long time, two defenders. I’m thinking of Gabbia’s return, numerically speaking. As for the rest, it could be complicated to get to Lenglet, who Aston Villa wants to keep. Furthermore, apparently, Arsenal do not intend to loan Kiwior,” said Bargiggia.

Lenglet only has six appearances for Aston Villa this season. He had only played in Conference League games, and on Friday got a chance to start against Sheffield United in the Premier League.

It does make sense that Unai Emery doesn’t want to lose a player in the middle of the season, and Milan should probably start looking at easier targets for the January transfer window.
