Aston Villa are increasingly being mentioned as a suitor for Matias Soule ahead of the summer window.
Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy about the Argentine’s future in Rome being uncertain. Unai Emery’s side have been monitoring him for months and their interest is believed to have resurfaced.
Bournemouth are also interested, with Soule under some scrutiny in Rome.
There are more convincing signs that the attacker’s time could be up, with Atletico Madrid joining Aston Villa in the race.
Roma’s price tag becoming clear
Corriere dello Sport – relayed by SiamoLaRoma, report that today could be a crucial day in Soule’s Roma career. They take on Fiorentina in a vital league game which can keep them in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
The former Juventus youngster has been struggling with a groin injury in recent weeks. That’s impacted his form but not chased away the interest.
Diego Simeone’s side have made several signings from Serie A in recent years. They are now monitoring Soule. Roma aren’t desperate to sell him, but suitors offer anything around €40m, they will end up considering a summer sale.
Aston Villa would likely to try to negotiate that figure downwards.
Intermediaries likely exploring market
Due to Roma’s financial situation and troubles meeting financial regulations, it feels like no player is safe. In cases like these, clubs explore the market through intermediaries to see which players can guarantee them a capital gain.
That is what seems to be happening here. Roma paid €26m for him in 2024 and Soule’s current value on their accounts is less than €20m.
As a result, a fee around €40m will go down as a big capital gain, thereby playing a role in easing FFP tensions.
Ideally, someone like Evan Ndicka would guarantee a higher capital gain as he joined Roma for free. But it feels like the Giallorossi are keeping an eye on opportunities and assessing if other players attract suitors too.
