On Monday, we covered claims from Spain which stated Aston Villa are interested in Celta Vigo’s Óscar Mingueza. It was also said the right-back has a €20m release clause in a deal that expires in 2026.

Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo relays claims made elsewhere about the Villans and then gives their own take on this case.

Aston Villa want the 25-year-old in the winter market and the newspaper’s title says the ‘operation is underway’ for his transfer.

Within the report, Mundo state they have found out that Aston Villa are at the starting stage of the negotiations. Unai Emery and the English club’s director, Monchi, seem to be leading the pursuit of the former Barcelona man.

It’s further claimed the Premier League side’s negotiations to sign Mingueza will advance ‘throughout this week’. The La Liga side, for now, are referring to his buyout clause.

Celta intend to offer a new deal to the Spaniard in order to raise his clause above €20m. Barcelona will receive 50% of the fee, meaning Celta will collect €10m if they sell him for his current clause.

Emery’s side made the ‘first call’ and Mingueza has to make a decision on his future in the winter market
