Aston Villa’s time to strike for Joao Félix may be fast approaching, with ‘time running out’ for him to find a new club this summer.
That’s according to Marca, who say the rush is now on for Félix to find a potential destination as neither he nor Atlético Madrid want to work together again.
The newspaper explains that the various parties, the player, the club and his agent Jorge Mendes have a week left before the forward is due to reunite with Atlético for pre-season.
Nobody wants that to happen, though, as Félix’s relationship with the club, and particularly Diego Simeone, is considered broken. The will for all parties is bring it to an end and there’s not much optimism that can be turned around.
So, there’s now a rush to find him a new destination before next week, something that could suit Aston Villa’s growing interest in him.
They’ve been increasingly linked in recent weeks, with its first explained that Unai Emery considers Félix a star player and a market opportunity.
That was followed by a claim they were ‘pressing’ to get a deal done for him before a report yesterday that they remained a team to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
Well, their opportunity may be now, with Marca explaining that the suitors aren’t forthcoming, particularly any that want to pay the €60m being demanded by Atlético.
That means there’s a clear pathway to the player while his, his entourage and Atlético all being desperate to get a deal done means there is a window for talks, and perhaps even to drive that price down.
It’s a situation to take advantage of either way, with that desperation sure to lead Félix and Atlético to consider whatever Aston Villa may present to them.
