Over the past few weeks, various claims from the Spanish and Portuguese press have said Aston Villa are in the picture to sign Atlético Madrid’s João Félix this summer.

It’s been repeatedly stated that Unai Emery admires the forward and this is pointed out again by Tribuna journalist Héctor Gómez, who provides the latest on the Villans.

He claims Emery sees it as a ‘personal challenge’ to make the Portugal international a star at Aston Villa.

The Premier League side are said to have told Los Rojiblancos that they’re keen on the 24-year-old and plan to make an offer. Félix’s relationship with Diego Simeone has broken down and the Madrid club are looking to offload him in this window.

According to the journalist, the player has given his approval to joining Aston Vills, and they have the desire to submit a bid.

Gómez claims Emery’s side will make an offer once they cash in on Jhon Durán’s sale to a Saudi club. Atlético are requesting €60m, but he claims Aston Villa’s offer won’t even reach €40m.

Aston Villa are aware that Félix isn’t worth €60m as of today, and the Madrid club haven’t received any other offers from elsewhere.

It’s worth noting that earlier claims have insisted that if Aston Villa move for the player it would be on loan instead of a permanent transfer. Therefore, it needs to be seen whether this report will be backed up by others in Spain, Portugal or England.
