Aston Villa could be given their second shot at signing Sevilla defender Marcos Acuña in the January transfer window as he makes his return from injury this week.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Spanish club are putting the Argentine ‘back in the showcase’ in the coming months.
They explain that in the final stretch of the summer transfer window the player was ‘one step away’ from leaving for Aston Villa, with Sevilla even talking about a possible replacement.
That was how close the move was to happening, but his injury frustrated the operation and stopped it happening, leaving him at Sevilla.
However, Estadio say that reports in England have made it clear Aston Villa ‘will return to the fray’ if Acuña is fit and playing.
That would be somewhat welcomed by Sevilla were, despite the player being a key part of the manager’s squad, they would be open to a sale.
That’s because the Spanish side didn’t make much money from player sales and so the bid from Aston Vill was ‘tempting’.
That means a potential sale in January could be welcomed. The hope is that Acuña can get back to his best in the coming months and give them something of an ‘advantage’ at that point.
Indeed, they would like to be able to ‘raise the bid’ for the player and perhaps get Aston Villa to repeat their summer efforts.
It all depends on how he gets on in the time in between but he is very much back in the window after the summer.
