On January 9th, we covered claims from France which stated Aston Villa have held direct talks over a move for SM Caen’s Tidiam Gomis.
Two days later, journalist Sacha Tavolieri said the Villans have made progress to try and sign the 18-year-old.
Africa Foot bring the latest on Aston Villa’s ongoing pursuit of the forward and add that RB Leipzig are also in the picture.
The left winger, who can also operate in other attacking positions, has managed two goals and two assists from 20 games for the second division French club this season.
Although his statistics aren’t that impressive, his performances and potential have caught Aston Villa and Leipzig attention. Unai Emery’s side are keen and tabled the first bid, but that didn’t please Caen.
This hasn’t put off the Premier League side as the report states they have returned with the ‘second offer’ of just over €4m in the last few hours. The German club have also made the first offer, but their details aren’t mentioned.
Africa Foot state the France U18 international will leave Caen ‘very soon’ and the club with the higher offer is set to win the battle.
Aston Villa and Leipzig have carried out ‘more than 50%’ of the negotiations and Emery’s side are ahead and have an advantage in the transfer race.
