Even though Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby has been linked to several Premier League clubs lately, it’s apparently Aston Villa who made the first move to sign the 24-year-old.

According to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Bundesliga club received an initial official offer from Unai Emery’s side for the transfer.

It’s claimed Aston Villa’s bid was placed on Wednesday, and was worth around €45m.

That amount, however, won’t be enough to make the transfer happen. Plettenberg says Bayer Leverkusen already turned down their bid, as they want around €60m for the sale.

The journalist also makes it clear that the talks aren’t over, as the ‘poker’ between the clubs goes on.

In the past few months, we’ve seen Diaby linked to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

It had repeatedly been said that Bayer Leverkusen would demand €60m for the transfer, so Aston Villa may be just testing the ground before they start raising their bid.

Diaby has a contract with the Bundesliga side until 2025, and is valued by Transfermarkt at €50m.
