Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana is being monitored daily thanks to his latest calf injury, but there is ‘no cause for concern’ at this moment in time.
DH Net report that the 24-year-old doesn’t appear to be a major injury concern for Aston Villa or Belgium at this moment in time.
Aston Villa aren’t concerned
They explain that a week after injuring his calf in Aston Villa’s first-leg clash with Nottingham Forest, Amadou Onana will be watching from the stands this evening.
That’s raised concerns in Belgium, particularly as Unai Emery has provided little information on the midfielder. That’s left room for doubt. “He will obviously be unavailable” said the Aston Villa coach this week, without mentioning a duration of absence.
DH Net, though, say that is positive news. It shows, according to them, that Aston Villa aren’t making assumptions about a long-term injury.
According to their information, Onana underwent an MRI scan last week. He will return before the end of the season. Emery wants him available in time for the Europa League final on May 20th and the two big Premier League games against Liverpool and Manchester City.
The injury is being ‘closely monitored’ by Aston Villa and Belgium’s national team staff. There is ‘no cause for concern’ at this moment in time. The plan is to assess the injury daily, with another MRI scan planned to take place soon.
Onana injury problems
Belgium, for their part, would seemingly be happy for Onana to take a bit of a rest anyway.
This season is his most competitive yet, with 36 appearances in total and over 2,600 minutes of playing time. He’s already topped his Premier League minutes from last season.
But he’s also suffered various injury issues over the last few months. His current record reads hamstring injury, muscle injury, hamstring injury, knee problems and calf problems.
That follows last season where he had four separate hamstring injuries and a foot injury. Fitness is a concern, and it seems neither Aston Villa nor Belgium are taking any risks.
