Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana has insisted that he’s not concerned about his price tag, as he’s sure he’s worth it already.
The midfielder has been speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws about his move from Everton this summer, and the pressure of the price tag put on him.
Onana arrived at Villa Park in a €59.35m deal towards the end of July as Aston Villa looked to replace the departed Douglas Luiz.
The Belgian had made it clear for some time that he was ready to move on from Everton after two years fighting relegation under Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche.
That determination scared off some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all credited with an interest but never making a move.
It was Aston Villa who eventually did so, electing to spend just under €60m on the midfielder as part of their rebuild under Unai Emery and Monchi this summer.
That’s a big price for the midfielder to contend with, but it seems he’s not concerned in the slightest.
“I wanted to start well,” he said.
“It made me feel strange. With my first ball contact! I immediately wanted to show the club: you got me for a lot of money, and I am worth it.
“I think I’m worth €60m. I just believe very much in my qualities and in what I can bring to this team. In my mind, that amount is not a problem.”
