Having decided to part ways with Steven Gerrard after a poor start to the season, Aston Villa join Wolves in the search for a new manager.

Names such as Mauricio Pochettino have been thrown around, while Rúben Amorim seems to be the favourite at this moment in time.

However, the Portuguese isn’t the first man Aston Villa approached, as we’ve also seen Thomas Tuchel mentioned here and there in the English media.

Well, according to L’Equipe and their journalist Loïc Tanzi, the Villans did make a move for the former Chelsea boss, but it was in vain.

The French newspaper claim Aston Villa have ‘significant resources to find their next manager’, and tried ‘in recent days to convince’ the German manager ‘to join their project’.

The offer they put forward to do so was ‘deemed high’, and included ‘ambitions on the transfer market’, suggesting the club were ready to spend to give him what he wanted.

Despite this, Tuchel, who was also approached by Bayer Leverkusen before they went for Xabi Alonso, ‘preferred to decline the proposal’.

Therefore, he will remain without a job for the time being, and Aston Villa will focus elsewhere to replace Gerrard at Villa Park.
