The Romelu Lukaku transfer saga has had twists and turns but there remains a constant insistence that he only wants to play under Antonio Conte at Napoli.
It wasn’t long ago that Lukaku didn’t get what he wanted, as he joined Roma last summer weeks after rejecting a return to Inter in an attempt to join Juventus. Things didn’t quite go as per plan for the Belgian then.
Corriere dello Sport suggests that this summer, Lukaku still wants Napoli and he continues to push for it, despite Aston Villa’s inclusion in the race.
And what Villa are offering isn’t what Napoli can offer. The Partenopei have put forward €25m plus bonuses of €5m, with the Blues yet to respond to that approach.
In the meantime, Aston Villa are said to have made it clear they’re willing to trigger Lukaku’s €43m release clause. Aston Villa can offer Champions League football, yet the only thing which matters to Lukaku now is Conte and Napoli.
As has been mentioned before, there’s every chance Aston Villa’s name is being used to pressure Napoli. If not, and they’re really ready to pay so much, perhaps they should have second thoughts given Lukaku clearly isn’t keen right now.
