Aston Villa’s interest in Sporting star Pedro Gonçalves is today mentioned by a couple of Portuguese newspapers.
The Lisbon media has been highlighting how difficult it will be for any club to sign the winger this summer, and it should be no different for Unai Emery’s sde.
Correio da Manhã feature a piece claiming Aston Villa only want to pay €40m for the transfer. That’s quite far from Sporting’s request, as they use the player’s €80m release clause as his price tag.
The newspaper writes that Gonçalves’ stay at the Lions is becoming more and more likely, partly because Inter Milan, who are also interested in him, won’t spend over €40m either.
Something very similar is written by A Bola, who say Sporting are keeping Gonçalves ‘in a safe’ by demanding €80m for him.
It’s claimed that Aston Villa and Inter Milan are ‘really interested’ in the player, but when they made their approaches with his agents, they signalled they’d spend between €40m and €50m.
Sporting see big importance in Gonçalves and are glad he won’t force a way out, as he’s excited about their project and even wants a contract renewal. So as long as the interested clubs don’t get even close to the €80m price tag, his exit won’t even be considered.
