Aston Villa and Barcelona expect to close the deal for Philippe Coutinho tonight, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan outlet writes the midfielder is ‘one step’ from signing for the Premier League side on a permanent move.

The clubs reportedly reached a deal to conduct the transfer for €20m, and the story claims the announcement could be made on Wednesday.

Mundo Deportivo claims that ‘sources close to the player’ claim the agreement is ‘close’, especially after Gerrard made ‘made a clear commitment to sign Coutinho’.

Aston Villa had a €40m buying option over the player, and the report doesn’t even say much about Barcelona are getting. They make it sound like the Camp Nou side are just happy to get rid of the player’s salary, since that will allow them to make other signings in the summer window.

Coutinho joined Aston Villa on loan in January, and has four goals and three assists in 16 appearances for the club. That was more than enough to convince them of investing in the permanent move.
