On Tuesday, the media local to Villarreal first reported Juan Foyth was out of training because he awaiting news on a move to Aston Villa, and then reported it was related to an injury.

Wednesday’s edition of El Periódico Mediterráneo reports it was actually down to both, stating it was due to ‘physical problems and waiting to resolve his future’.

The defender has had a torrid time with fitness over the past year. He only returned in December from a knee injury and the 27-year-old has had limited game time since.

El Periódico Mediterráneo report Aston Villa ‘went for him with an offer’ before cooling their interest down and looking at other targets.

Reading between the lines, it would appear Foyth was likely a Unai Emery suggestion on the condition a bargain deal could be done.

The manager tried to sign the Argentine for PSG, but lost out to Tottenham, and then bought him from Spurs for Villarreal. However, his injury situation over the past year clearly puts certain limits on the potential investment.

The media local to Villarreal haven’t reported the potential finances of a deal at any stage.
