Aston Villa are providing competition to Fiorentina for Hellas Verona youngster Cyril Ngonge, with the Italian side believing they will have to be beaten if they are to get the 23-year-old winger.

That’s according to Corriere Fiorentino, who cover the transfer plans at Fiorentina today and how that could see them competing with Aston Villa this month.

The newspaper explains that the current financial worries at Verona mean they may be forced to sell off their rising young stars and after Isak Hien joined Atalanta, the next to leave could be Ngonge.

Fiorentina have been following him since last summer and are considering once again whether to make a move, but if they were to move for him, they would have to beat the ‘very rich competition’ in the form of Aston Villa.

The latter’s interest is nothing new either, with a report from Tuttomercatoweb at the end of last month throwing them into the mix while claiming Verona were expecting a bid from an English side at some point soon.

They explain that Aston Villa would be an attractive option for the youngster and, furthermore, they could easily afford the €10-15m valuation that Verona have put on the player.

Corriere Fiorentino now back that up somewhat and insist that if Fiorentina are to get Ngonge, who is very much an option they are looking at, the belief is that they will need to outdo Aston Villa in some capacity.

That’s unlikely to be financially so it instead seems the Italians may need a different plan to win the expected battle.
