Aston Villa remain ‘on pole’ to sign Mateo Guendouzi from Marseille this summer, should the French side elect to sell the midfielder as expected.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Marseille are looking for around €25m for the French midfielder as they seek to raise funds in the summer transfer window.
They explain that Marseille are set to undergo a ‘new major upheaval’ in terms of the squad once this season comes to an end.
Pablo Longoria is already a ‘passionate and busy man’ on that front as he looks to reshape the squad to better suit manager Igor Tudor.
In that sense, Aston Villa are ‘on pole’ to secure his signature and reunite the midfielder with Unai Emery, who he worked alongside at Arsenal.
Their interest has been known for some time, with several reports in the January transfer window indicating they were keen and trying to get a deal over the line.
That never happened but it has not stopped them being linked and a report at the end of last month insisted Aston Villa were likely to push aside Premier League competition for Guendouzi’s signature.
It seems that remains the case, with FM stating they are in pole position in terms of those in the race for him, with a move away from Marseille now seemingly certain.
