With January now upon us, the idea that a few of Aston Villa’s outcasts could find themselves a new club is starting to take shape, with Morgan Sanson among them.

Reports in France are growing that the player is pushing for a return to France, where he initially made a name for himself with Montpellier and Marseille.

While a move back to the latter appears off the cards for the Aston Villa flop following their signing of Ruslan Malinovskyi, the former could start placing a few pieces on the board.

That’s what Jeunes Footeux in France are hinting at on Tuesday, claiming things around the midfielder could ‘accelerate very quickly’.

Having let Sacha Delaye head to Puy Foot 43 on loan, Montpellier have a space in their squad and they seem intent to fill it, which is where Sanson could come in.

However, it’s made clear that for that to happen, the Aston Villa player would either have to make some big sacrifices in the wages department or the Villans would have to take some of his salary on board for the duration of any loan.

That’s because he earns €3m/year at Villa Park, while Montpellier’s maximum wage is around €1.2m/year, meaning there is a big gap to fill.
