Two days ago, Italian journalist Luca Bendoni reported Inter Milan have initiated contact to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.
Bendoni took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share more updates on Inter’s plan for the Aston Villa star.
Yann Sommer is first choice at the San Siro. The 37-year-old’s contract expires at the end of June and he will leave after this season. Inter have identified a few targets and added Martínez to their list.
Should the Serie A side decide to sign an experienced stopper, they will move for the 33-year-old Argentina international. The player’s his agents have been spotted in Milan this week, which fits in with those Nerazzurri talks.
Inter, who suffered a 2-0 Champions League defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday, have explored the conditions needed to sign Martínez.
Offer made to Aston Villa player
Tuttosport also report on the Italian club’s meeting with his agent. They add Inter have offered a two-year deal worth €4m, after tax, per year.
Sky Italia back up these claims and share more on Inter’s interest in the World Cup winner.
Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio have the Aston Villa man in their list. Sky Italia claim the San Siro club are ‘serious about the South American’, who is seen as a ‘world class option’ to replace Sommer.
Sky Italia also report on Inter meeting with Martínez’s brother and agent. They registered their interest during this meeting and even discussed figures. The Serie A side are ready to offer him a two-year deal and don’t want to exceed beyond €4m plus bonuses.
None of the reports mention the response of the goalkeeper’s representatives.
Martínez came close to leaving Aston Villa for Manchester United in the summer. The move didn’t go through and the Red Devils ended up signing Senne Lammens on deadline day.
Emiliano Martínez isn’t a free agent in the summer. He has an Aston Villa contract running until 2029, so a fee would need to be negotiated.
