Last summer, Aston Villa allowed Philippe Coutinho to join Vasco da Gama on a season-long loan deal without an option or obligation to buy.

On December 19th, Vasco da Gama president Pedrinho expressed desire to extend the 32-year-old’s loan stay beyond this June.

RTI Esporte have a report on Vasco da Gama’s ongoing efforts to extend the Aston Villa man’s temporary deal until the end of this new calendar year.

The attacking midfielder is represented by Giuliano Bertolucci and the outlet states the Brazilian club’s director is in talks the agent to secure another agreement. They also plan to insert a purchase option as part of the new loan deal, but there’s no mention of figures.

Coutinho’s contract at Aston Villa lasts until 2026 and has options to move to Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Despite this, his desire is to continue where he is to stay close to his family.

It’s claimed the player’s agent has already reached a ‘preliminary agreement’ with the South American club’s board. They have to agree a deal with the Villans and are yet to open official negotiations.

With Unai Emery not considering Coutinho at Villa Park, it shouldn’t be an issue for Vasco da Gama to reach an agreement at Aston Villa.
