Aston Villa’s Dibu Martinez is set to miss Argentina’s November friendlies, to make room for other goalkeeper options.
That’s according to Pasion Futbol, who report the Aston Villa man will be dropped for the two games in the next international break.
Lionel Scaloni’s side are set for another two fixtures next month as they continue ‘fine tuning’ ahead of the World Cup next summer.
Scaloni has already confirmed that they plan to rotate the squad next time. He confirmed the plan to the press in a press conference before the game against Puerto Rico.
“Dibu always wants to play, like everyone else,” he said.
“He made an effort to come back after his calf problem, and he still came back. That’s very important for us. But in November we’ll surely try something else; that’s our plan.”
The decision to drop the Aston Vills star has been made to give other goalkeepers playing time. Martinez is the undisputed starter for the World Cup holders, but Scaloni wants to plan for any eventuality.
He sees the upcoming friendlies as key for his back up goalkeepers. That’s also the case across the squad, with several players fighting to get in. Scaloni intends to evaluate several options and that means Martinez will be dropped. We’re sure he’ll be delighted with that.
