Leon Bailey has had a torrid time since he joined AS Roma on loan from Aston Villa.

After two injuries earlier in the campaign, he came off the bench against Juventus in December. There were big expectations, largely due to his agent hyping everything up. Bailey was then quickly injured again.

He wasn’t in Roma’s squad for their win over Genoa. Now, he could be on his way back to Aston Villa.

Il Messaggero – relayed by ForzaRoma, report Bailey is suffering from a bout of flu, at the same time as battling a muscle problem.

This has further complicated matters for him, with the Giallorossi looking to make key attacking signings. The 28-year-old can make way for a new arrival, with Roma now in contact with Aston Villa to terminate the loan deal.

His return to Birmingham is unlikely to be easy, though. This is because the two clubs hadn’t added a recall clause when the loan was initially discussed. Despite that, Roma are trying to make it happen, with Giacomo Raspadori close to joining them from Atletico Madrid.

Bailey’s struggles with injuries aren’t a big surprise. Even at Aston Villa last season, his game time was restricted due to fitness worries. Should Unai Emery’s side take the Jamaican back, it’s quetionable he’ll be around for long.
