Emiliano Martínez’s decision to leave Arsenal for Aston Villa last summer has paid off as the goalkeeper has enjoyed his debut season at Villa Park.

The 28-year-old has conceded 35 goals in 31 matches and has kept 14 clean sheets in the process.

His good form for Dean Smith’s side has caught the attention of Atlético Madrid, if a report from Fichajes.net is to be believed.

It’s claimed the Argentine is the sights of the La Liga side as his displays have ‘impressed’ Diego Simeone. Therefore, he’s the ‘one chosen’ by the Spanish club’s manager.

According to the report, Los Rojiblancos are ‘interested in acquiring the services’ of the former Gunners keeper, if Jan Oblak decides to leave the Madrid club.

The Slovenia international is in the sights of top European clubs and in the event his departure is confirmed, only then would Atlético consider making an approach for the Aston Villa keeper.

A potential transfer to Atlético could be possible [if Oblak leaves] after Martínez’s agent Gustavo Goni admitted last month that his client could play anywhere following the breakthrough season at Aston Villa.
