Lamare Bogarde has convinced Unai Emery, hence the chances he is now being given by the Aston Villa manager.

That’s according to journalist Süleyman Öztürk, via Voetbal International, who believes the defender is clearly developing quickly under the Spaniard.

Bogarde is pretty much a product of Aston Villa’s youth academy at this point after joining them from Feyenoord in 2020.

The 21-year-old has worked his way up, playing for the U18s and U23s as well as going out on loan to Bristol Rovers at one point.

He was moved into the Aston Villa first team last season and handed his Premier League debut by Emery in a 2-1 win over Leicester City in August. Bogarde was also handed a Champions League debut the following month in a win over Young Boys.

The Dutchman appears to be in Emery’s favour and has already made eight appearances in all competitions this season. That includes three starts in seven in the Premier League. In comparison, he made 18 appearances in all competitions last season.

“Unai Emery takes football seriously”

He appears ready to smash that number this year for Aston Villa, and Öztürk believes that’s because he’s earned Emery’s trust.

“If you’re talented, you’ll be in good hands with some coaches,” he said.

“And Unai Emery takes football seriously, takes footballers seriously. Yes, those lectures are long. So, you have to listen carefully. But you do develop if you’re willing to invest.

“That’s Lamaar Bogarde. We’re seeing that now, because otherwise you wouldn’t get a chance at all. And now in this match last weekend, he had 58 passes from 58. That’s nice in that position. Yes, definitely. And Unai Emery agrees.

“Of course, the competition is there too. They play a lot of matches. But when a coach like Unai Emery comes to you, it means you develop. And that’s nice to see. He can be deployed in multiple positions, too. That’s also nice these days.”
