Edit: A previous version of this article stated OGC Nice was a ‘former club’ of Digne’s, that is not the case.

Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne could end up at OGC Nice in the last two weeks of the window.

The Ligue 1 side are in the market for a new left-back and had identified Sergiño Dest as a target. The Barcelona player is now set to join PSV Eindhoven, leaving the French club to focus on Digne

According to RMC Sport, an agreement is ‘close’ between the Aston Villa defender and Nice.

It’s claimed the former Everton man is not included in Unai Emery’s plans even though he has played the full 90 minutes in both league games this season. That’s because Àlex Moreno is not expected to return to action at least until the end of August.

Apart from trying to agree a deal with the player, Nice are also negotiating with the Premier League side to sign him on a loan deal with an option to buy.

Journalist Ignazio Genuardi took to Twitter to explain that Nice are trying to sign Digne on a loan deal. Even though the fullback is left out of Emery’s plans, Nice will ‘have to wait’.

Genuardi claims Aston Villa have to ‘find a replacement’ first before giving green light to Digne’s transfer.
