Aston Villa are one of the clubs in the race to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach star Marcus Thuram in the summer.
The striker has impressed this season, managing 14 goals and four assists from 22 matches in all competitions. His current deal lasts until June and the Bundesliga side’s sporting director, Roland Virkus, has told Sport1 that Thuram will leave the club as a free agent.
Sport relay that in their Tuesday edition and then go on to name Aston Villa as one of the 25-year-old’s suitors.
The report mainly focuses on Barcelona’s interest in the France international and how the Gladbach chief’s comment is a welcome boost for them in their pursuit of the attacker.
It’s explained Thuram is a ‘very desirable footballer’ and is wanted by several clubs. This is when the Villans get a mention as the Frenchman is on the agenda of Unai Emery’s side and others.
He’s currently valued at €32m. If Aston Villa, Barca or another club end up signing him for free, it will be a ‘great deal’ for them.
Barcelona will try to get ahead of others to win the race but it won’t be easy for them.
Thuram is in a ‘privileged position’ to pick his next destination. Time will tell whether it will be Aston Villa or another club.
