Following initial reports from the English media claiming Aston Villa are interested in Real Betis star Luiz Henrique, it’s time for the Spanish press to back up the news.
Outlet Mucho Deporte today features a story claiming, from their own information, that after failing to sign Iñaki Williams from Athletic Bilbao with a £45m offer, they went for the second on their list, which is the Brazilian.
Luiz Henrique is protected by Betis with a €100m release clause, which is obviously highly unlikely to be triggered.
But it’s said that in case Unai Emery ‘pushes’ and Aston Villa put a big amount of money on the table, then ‘anything could happen’, especially in the final week of the transfer window.
It’s recalled that Betis spent €13m to sign the player from Fluminense last summer, and pointed out his market value, probably based on Transfermarkt, has been of €15m ‘for many months’.
But that’s not the price the La Liga side will use as a reference, because it’s said they’d like to make €60m with that sale, and we now wait to see if Aston Villa would be ready to pay that much.
