Geny Catamo’s recent form may give Aston Villa something to think about again. Last summer, the Premier League club offered around €20m, but Sporting refused to move from their €25-30m valuation.

Since then, the winger’s trajectory has only gone upward, and the cost of a second attempt in January would be far higher.

As told by A BOLA, Catamo has reinforced his status as one of Sporting’s most decisive players, particularly in the biggest domestic fixture on the calendar.

The 24-year-old has scored in all three league derbies he has played against Benfica, delivering goals that effectively unlocked both titles in the club’s recent back-to-back championship run.

Those contributions turned him into a talisman for the green-and-white side in high-pressure games, increasing his visibility well beyond the Portuguese league.

Aston Villa target really shining

This season, Catamo has made 17 appearances across all competitions, with 11 starts and 833 minutes played. He has registered one goal and three assists, while maintaining the explosiveness and right-sided penetration that first caught Aston Villa’s attention.

His consistency since returning from injury has helped cement his place in Rui Borges’s plans, with another derby looming and the winger pushing for a starting spot.

Meanwhile, Sporting have accelerated efforts to secure his future, and his renewal is now well underway.

The club have already confirmed that his release clause will rise from €60m to €80m once the new deal is signed, along with an extended contract to 2030 or 2031 and a higher salary bracket. That change alone makes any repeat of the £17m (€20m) offer obsolete.

Given the way Catamo is performing, the figures involved in a January move would be dramatically different from those discussed in the summer.

If Aston Villa still see him as a viable reinforcement, they may have to decide whether to revisit the deal before the financial threshold climbs even higher.
