Clement Lenglet’s recent performances for Aston Villa have proven to be ‘disastrous news’ for Barcelona, who had been hoping to sell the Frenchman.
That’s according to Sport, who cover Lenglet as one of several players at the Camp Nou that Barcelona were hoping to move on and how those sales ‘get stuck’.
They label the defender as ‘another that becomes complicated’ as he continues to struggle to impress on loan at Aston Villa.
He joined Unai Emery’s side in the summer after a similar loan deal at Tottenham last season and, despite the deal not including a purchase option, Barcelona had hoped this loan could prove to be the ‘definitive one’ and lead to a sale.
At the moment, that is not proving to be the case. Lenglet has not featured much for Aston Villa this season and has been unable to impress recently in the absence of Pau Torres.
Indeed, in the three games he’s been brought in he has ‘suffered a lot’, so much so that Emery had to defend him publicly in his press conference.
Those good words did not spark reaction from the French defender, though, as Sport believe once again disappointed in his next two appearances.
That’s ‘disastrous news’ for Barcelona’s ‘aspirations in the market’ as they had been hoping to sell Lenglet and not only take some of the money from that but also get rid of one of the highest salaries in their squad, particularly as his deal runs until 2026.
Lenglet is not part of their plans or manager Xavi’s either, but so far, his time at Aston Villa has done nothing to aid their hopes of getting rid permanently.
