Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker has cost Napoli €129k per minute since arriving on loan in January, with the whole deal very much seen as a disaster in Italy.
Area Napoli cover the player today and the enormous cost to Napoli’s finances for a player who has barely featured since arriving on loan from Aston Villa.
The Belgian was one of several signings made by the Italian champions in January after a disastrous first half of the season and title defence.
He arrived looking to bounce back after a difficult spell at Aston Villa but has instead managed just three appearances in Serie A since arriving.
The deal has been getting plenty of criticism made since, with it made clear that Napoli have no intention of making the loan permanent and it even stated today that it was evident from minute one that the move would not work out for him.
There’s been a clear determination to write the whole thing off and present the deal as a terrible one and Area Napoli follow that today.
They cover how Dendoncker has managed just 17 minutes of action (some others have it as 21, although it makes little difference at this stage) since his arrival which, given the wages they agreed to pay when signing him from Aston Villa, means he’s cost them a princely €129,000 per minute to date.
That’s easily the highest of any player in the Napoli squad, with the nearest figure being Nikita Contini, who is at €32,941 per minute.
In other words, it’s been a complete disaster and a move the Italian side are regretting, particularly from a financial point of view.
