Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer would be a ‘feasible solution’ for FC Union Berlin as they look for a replacement for the injured Kevin Volland.
That’s according to Berliner Kurier, who report that the Aston Villa man could be an option for the Germany sides after reports in England linked him with a move.
Archer returned to Aston Villa this summer following a year at Sheffield United, who he joined for €21.55m last summer.
It’s been reported in England that he’s not a part of Unai Emery’s plans for the short-term, with the idea instead that he goes out on loan to gain experience elsewhere before challenging for a place in future.
Several sides in Europe are believed to be keen on him and Union Berlin have been named as one of them.
Berliner Kurier cover the potential of them moving today, explaining that they remain on the market for a centre-forward as Kevin Volland is set to be out of action for some time.
They say that Archer would be a ‘feasible solution’ for them, even if the loan deal was only for the first half of the season.
That would allow them to cover for Volland and then assess the situation in the second half of the campaign with Aston Villa.
They’ve done similar deals in the past, bringing in David Datro Fofana from Chelsea last summer, a deal that didn’t particularly work out as he returned in January and then went to Burnley.
It shows their willingness to do loans, though, and with other options such as Ragnar Ache considered too expensive, the Aston Villa man might be a smart target.
