When players start returning to their clubs for pre-season training it can create awkward situations for those who don’t really want to be there.
That was very much the case with Joao Felix and Atletico Madrid a few days ago. Having spent the last season on loan at Barcelona, and celebrating scoring against his parent club, the Portugal international is persona non grata for many Atleti fans.
When Felix started training, the club posted images on social media, and that didn’t go down well at all. Multiple clubs have been named as potential destinations, with Aston Villa mentioned more than any other in recent days.
However, there doesn’t appear to be any progress in their efforts for the player, despite continuous reports saying Unai Emery and Monchi are keen on a deal.
Sunday’s edition of Record states that whilst Aston Villa are the ‘main competitor’ there’s been ‘no progress in negotiations’.
It would appear Aston Villa hold some interest but only in the scenario that a very good deal is there to be done with little chance for them losing significant money.
Previous reports in Portugal made clear that Villa had no intention of securing the attacker’s permanent transfer so would instead be looking at taking him from Atletico Madrid on a loan basis.
