In February 2025, Calciomercato reported on Aston Villa’s interest in Fiorentina’s Moise Kean.
At that point, the Italian was at the peak of his powers. He was in fine form but things have changed this season, and he’s once again found himself facing criticism.
The 25-year-old has only five Serie A goals so far this season, having missed a glut of big chances across the campaign. Fiorentina themselves have struggled seriously, having been winless in the first half of the season.
La Viola find themselves 18th out of 20 in Serie A and in danger of dropping into the Serie B abyss. They’re only three points behind Lecce, but have played a game more.
There’s been signs of improvements, with Fiorentina winning two of their last three league games. Without that, the situation would look even more dire.
Calciomercato IT report Unai Emery’s side have made a ‘decisive move’ for Moise Kean, whose loss would be a blow.
Aston Villa looking for Malen replacement
Aston Villa are said to be moving because they are likely to lose Donyell Malen to AS Roma or Atletico Madrid in the coming days. His exit will leave Unai Emery short in the attacking department and they see Kean as an option.
The outlet claim the striker wants to stay in Italy, but things can change. Everything will depend on what the Villans offer and how they try to convince Kean.
As of now, the ex-Everton player has a release clause worth €62m. That is the amount Fiorentina will point towards, if Aston Villa hold negotiations over a permanent deal.
There’s zero chance Aston Villa or anyone else will be paying that amount in January or beyond. Fiorentina will be in serious financial difficulty should they drop down to Serie B. Given that, they need to calculate transfer decisions with a potential relegation in mind.
