On December 20th, Mundo Deportivo reported Aston Villa have contacted Barcelona over a move for Marc-André ter Stegen in the winter market.
Last week, Radio Marca explained the goalkeeper could leave next month to improve his chances of making it to the World Cup with Germany. Therefore, Aston Villa remain as an option for him.
A ‘confidential’ report from Sport looks at Aston Villa’s interest and his chances of joining them in January.
Unai Emery currently has Emiliano Martínez as the first-choice goalkeeper and Marco Bizot as his backup. The Argentine came close to leaving the Villans last summer. Therefore, the English club had then asked about Ter Stegen.
Martínez ended up staying and the possibility of the Villans signing the 33-year-old Barca player has now ‘disappeared’. ‘The reality is’ that Aston Villa aren’t considering signing a new stopper.
Meanwhile, claims from Spain have stated Barcelona sporting director Deco has Aston Villa defender Pau Torres in his list.
It’s claimed the 28-year-old centre-back is ‘untouchable and indispensable’ for Emery and the English club won’t listen to offer for him.
Sport say there’s a good relationship between Emery’s side and the Catalan club. However, there will be ‘no negotiations’ to take Ter Stegen to Aston Villa and Torres to Barcelona.
