Aston Villa may be the only option for Joao Félix this summer, as Angel Di Maria’s decision to stay at Benfica potentially closes the door to a return there.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who report that Félix is running out of options to leave Atlético and that could give Aston Villa their chance to get him.
The newspaper explains that Félix has asked his agent Jorge Mendes to find him a new club before July 287th, the date on which he should join up with Atlético for pre-season.
He does not want that to happen and so has his agent scouring the market for options to avoid him needing to work under Diego Simeone or with his former teammates again.
Félix would like to return to Barcelona, but they cannot sign him and now have other priorities, leaving him until the end of the transfer window, something that Félix does not want.
That means he may be forced to look at the two other options on the table, Fenerbahçe and Aston Villa.
The Turkish option comes from the fact that they’re now manager by Jose Mourinho, who is also represented by Mendes, thus facilitating matters.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, tried to sign him a year and a half ago and are now in the Champions League, something which could be used to tempt the Portuguese forward into the move to Villa Park.
The last option would be a move to Saudi Arabia, but Félix doesn’t want that and is not considering it at this moment in time.
The window of opportunity is therefore open for Aston Villa, who at this moment may be more attractive than they once were and can perhaps use the offer of Champions League football to their advantage.
