On loan from Aston Villa for the remainder of the season, Carlos Sanchez reminded his critics why he the Serie A team gambled on him in the first place at the weekend.
The now Fiorentina midfielder was awarded the man of the match award by Gazzetta dello Sport for his performance against Roma, as the Florence-based club saw off title challengers Roma 1-0 with a late Milan Badelj goal.
The Colombian midfielder was given a 7/10, and the Italian newspaper were very complementary of his 90 minutes, saying the win was pretty much down to him.
They said: “He has the stamina, the quality and the substance to support a midfielder often outnumbered. If the victory was eventually achieved, it was because he was at the helm of it.”
Some rather nice words made towards a player who, let’s be honest, wasn’t exactly seen as an outstanding talent during his time at Villa Park.
The player saw his time on the pitch reduced last season for the then Premier League club as a hamstring injury saw him miss a good three months of football.
The 67-times capped defensive midfielder made 56 appearances for Aston Villa over a two-year period, scoring one goal and picking up an assist in the process.
