With Unai Emery now in charge at Aston Villa, there has been a lot of talk about Matteo Guendouzi being a target for the Spanish manager.
After all, the young midfielder has been in fine form since joining Marseille, and knows both the Villa boss and the Premier League well from their time at Arsenal together.
The issue here remains to convince the player that swapping a club currently challenging for a Champions League spot for Villa Park is a good idea, as well as putting enough money in front of the Ligue 1 club to sanction a sale.
Neither of those matters have been resolved yet, but La Provence on Monday do suggest the Premier League side could move quickly.
They claim that, from an English source of theirs, Aston Villa ‘would like to quickly starting moving’ to ‘try and hire’ Guendouzi and ‘could include one of their players in the transaction’.
Who that could be isn’t said, and it’s also made clear that ‘nothing suggests that will be enough’ to get a deal over the line.
Therefore, we have to wait and see what Aston Villa decide to do, because with just over a week left in the transfer window, the clock has really started ticking.
