Aston Villa have ‘joined the list’ of clubs interested in Girona defender Viktor Tsygankov and Unai Emery has already told the Ukrainian he wants him at Villa Park.
That’s according to AS, who say Girona are remaining calm despite the interest from Aston Villa and other clubs in Europe.
They explain that the Spanish side are waiting ‘with open arms’ for Tsygankov, who is currently still on holiday after playing at Euro 2024 with his country.
The defender remains a part of the club and manager Míchel’s plans, with the latter asking them at the end of last season to try and get the player signed to a new deal.
That’s because he has a €30m termination clause in his current contract and that would not be a major obstacle to Premier League clubs signing him.
Aston Villa have not made a formal offer for Tsygankov at this moment in time but have contacted his environment and agent to tell him they are ‘going to pursue him shortly’.
The Villans are said to be drawing up their plans to try and convince the player and thus be able to negotiate a deal with Girona from that point.
Unai Emery has already told Tsygankov that he wants to have him as part of his squad and AS say it is clear this has been accompanied by some sort of economic proposal. The fact they can offer Champions League football is a factor, although Girona also have that in their locker too.
Tsygankov, for his part, is not rushing into a decision and is waiting to see how the market moves before making any decision about his future.
