Aston Villa will ‘insist’ on a deal for Sporting Club de Portugal coach Ruben Amorim, despite being knocked back on their first attempt.
That’s according to A Bola, who say the coach ‘only thinks of the Lions’ for the time being and is not allowing his head to be turned.
They explain that Aston Villa are trying to convince Amorim to accept a new challenge and have made it clear they are not scared by his €30m release clause.
They are ‘crazy’ about the Portuguese coach and are seriously ‘thinking’ about him as their replacement for Steven Gerrard.
His initial response was negative, but A Bola understands that Aston Villa still see Amorim as ‘one of the best solutions’ to lead the team and so will ‘insist’ on getting him.
They see him as a young, ambitious coach with a long future ahead of him and want part of that to be at Villa Park.
Amorim has already publicly cooled the rumours and poured water on the growing flames but ‘the interest is real’ and even his €30m release clause isn’t being seen as a deterrent for now.
They ‘won’t give up’ on their attempt to get him but at the same time, Amorim won’t give up on Sporting. He wants to finish the season in Portugal and then assess his options, something that naturally doesn’t fit in with Aston Villa’s plans.
