Aston Villa’s influence at Spanish club Real Unión was felt on deadline day of the January transfer window as youngster Josh Feeney and Tommi O’Reilly secured moves to Spain.

El Diario Vasco cover the pair and explain the sports agreement with Aston Villa, which was signed late last year after Vasco ended a similar relationship with Real Sociedad, bared its ‘first fruits’ on deadline day of the January window.

Two players joined Unión on loa, with Feeney, who had already been waiting to secure a move, and fellow youth product O’Reilly both signing on the dotting like.

A move had been delayed due to bureaucratic problems caused by the fact both players have non-EU status for the Spanish club.

Unión and Aston Villa ‘worked hard’ to overcome those issues and the pair will now be spending the rest of the season with the Spanish side.

The move is a clear indication of Aston Villa’s plan with Unión moving forwards, with them obviously now a feeder team to help them develop talent away from Villa Park and potentially scoop up Spanish talent as well.

They’ve already done one of those things this season, so expect plenty of the latter moving forwards as well.
