Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy this summer.

Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that Aston Villa have expressed interest in the striker, who is willing to listen to offers.

He’s starred for BVB this season, scoring 22 goals and contributing six assists from 46 matches.

His performances have seen him attract interest from Aston Villa, other European clubs and beyond.

Aston Villa frontrunners to sign Guirassy

The widespread interest is according to Bild, who cover the latest on the Villans, Fenerbahçe and unnamed clubs from Saudi Arabia.

Serhou Guirassy has been on the agenda of several Middle East clubs, but the France-born Guinea international favours staying in Europe.

The transfer window in Saudi opens on July 22nd, while European windows open much before that. This allows his European suitors to plan well in advance and make an early move.

This is also another factor that would see the player prefer another club in Europe over Saudi.

Unai Emery’s side and Fener are now the hottest prospects, meaning these two clubs are frontrunners to sign him.

It won’t be easy for the Villans or another club to sign Guirassy because the Bundesliga side intend to retain him. At least, that’s what Borussia Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken recently stated.

“We have no intention of letting him leave. He has impressively demonstrated his value to Borussia Dortmund over the last two seasons,” he said.

Whether this is BVB’s genuine stance or a tactic to get a better deal remains to be seen.

Unai Emery has Ollie Watkins and Tammy Abraham as the two recognised strikers at his disposal.

Abraham arrived at Villa Park in the winter market and recently underwent surgery. The addition of Serhou Guirassy would further improve their attack next season.

Transfermarkt value the Borussia Dortmund star, who has a contract until 2028, at €32m.
