Aston Villa are still in the picture to sign Marseille’s Mattéo Guendouzi before the January window closes on Tuesday.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who state Unai Emery has been in love with the 23-year-old since he had him under his orders at Arsenal. The midfielder is also an admirer of the Villans manager.
It’s claimed Aston Villa have been in contact with Guendouzi’s entourage for several weeks and have made a ‘very good financial offer’ to him.
The Premier League side are the ‘hottest club’ and have two days left to make an offer to the Ligue 1 side for the France international.
Marseille president Pablo Longoria assures he will not let the player leave in January, but remains more open to a transfer after this season.
The French club are set to allow Pape Gueye to join Sevilla on a loan deal. Therefore, they cannot allow Guendouzi to leave the club, even though they have added Azzedine Ounahi to their squad.
Despite Longoria’s stance, the newspaper states a last-minute approach from Aston Villa cannot be ruled out. They have the economic resources and Emery loves Guendouzi.
