Matias Soule has been linked with a move to Aston Villa and talk around the Argentinian is now growing.
This week, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that the versatile attacker could be sold this summer. This is mainly because of AS Roma’s growing concerns over meeting financial regulations.
They have to make significant capital gains by the end of June, with Soule now among the candidates to leave.
LaRoma24 were certain about Aston Villa’s interest, with Bournemouth also monitoring the 23-year-old.
These suggestions have now escalated in the Italian press, with Il Messaggero adding some details.
Deal may not be expensive
The Roman newspaper note that Soule isn’t having the best of times in recent weeks. He has struggled since returning from a groin injury, even if he has started against Inter, Atalanta and Bologna.
There is confirmation about Aston Villa’s interest too, with the report certain Unai Emery’s side have been monitoring the attacker for a while now.
So far, there has been no contact between the two clubs. Roma haven’t made evaluations about a possible sale either. Sporting director Ricky Massara is completely convinced about Soule’s possible exit either.
Anything over €15m, would provide a capital gain to Roma.
Future being considered
Leggo – relayed by RivistaLaRoma, appear sure that Soule’s future in Rome is in doubt. This is mainly because he hasn’t grown as expected and his numbers haven’t picked up since last season.
Gian Piero Gasperini isn’t fully convinced either. He expects Soule to make an immediate impact in the next few weeks or his exit will be considered.
As a result, RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa has been identified as a replacement.
Our take: No one safe at Roma
The way things are at Roma, they could miss out on Champions League football once again. This will have a big knock-on effect on their finances and add further pressure to sell players.
That is why no one at the Italian side will be safe. While it does feel like rumours around Soule come from those around him, it is something Aston Villa will keep an eye on.
Mainly a right-winger, he is capable of playing on either flank and as a number ten. He has played in a transition-based team during his time at Frosinone and this can prove very interesting for Emery’s side.
