Aston Villa are ‘getting closer’ to an agreement with Sevilla for defender Marcos Acuña despite an ‘initial coldness’ in the negotiations.
That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, who say the Argentine is likely to be the next big departure from Sevilla following goalkeeper Bono’s move to Saudi Arabia.
Aston Villa have made their move for Acuña over the last week, making an initial offer for the full back that was quickly rejected and considered far too low.
A second improved bid was reportedly made and also rejected, with Sevilla unimpressed by the figures offered or the conduct of former director of football Monchi, who is now in charge at Villa Park.
That has not put off Aston Villa, though, who are expected to continue pushing for a deal with improved offers after already convincing the player on the move.
Sevilla are more than open to the potential deal if they can secure the right price, with it even explained that they’re willing to bury the hatchet with Monchi if he does things properly.
Diario now follow that up and say following Bono’s departure, there is still a lot of work to do at the club and the focus remains on the ‘exit operation’.
Acuña is at the top of the list and the two clubs ‘are getting closer’ to finalising a deal, ‘waiting for an agreement’ that would be an end to the ‘initial coldness’ in the negotiations.
A deal, then, does not appear to be close at this point but it is something which is being worked on by both parties, nonetheless.
