Aston Villa have now been pushed forward as the Premier League club most attentive to Anatoliy Trubin’s situation. Benfica is preparing for the possibility of a change in goal this summer.
Tottenham have already been dragged into the picture in Portugal, especially because of Trubin’s past with Roberto De Zerbi and the uncertainty around Guglielmo Vicario. But A Bola now bring Villa more directly into the story.
Benfica admit Trubin can leave
The Portuguese newspaper frame the situation around the idea that Anatoliy Trubin could indeed leave Benfica.
Trubin was signed by Benfica from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023/24 for €10m (£8.5m), plus another €1m (£850k) in bonuses. He has since become the clear No.1 in Lisbon, but A Bola state the 24-year-old has received enquiries from European clubs.
The Ukrainian international is said to want a move to a more competitive league, with the Premier League his preferred destination. And that is where Aston Villa come in.
According to A Bola, Villa are the club paying closest attention to the situation. Benfica, meanwhile, would admit a sale if an “exciting” offer arrives.
The same report says the Portuguese club will not negotiate for less than €20m (£17m).
That should be treated as a starting point rather than a final price. Correio da Manhã recently claimed Benfica could consider a sale closer to €40m (£34m), while Trubin’s release clause stands at €100m (£85m).
His contract runs until 2028, so Benfica still have control. Even so, the fact they are already assessing alternatives suggests they are taking the possibility seriously.
Martínez’s situation fueling speculation

The Argentina international has again been surrounded by exit talk, and that may be opening the door for Villa to monitor possible successors. Reports in Italy have already claimed clubs there are negotiating for him ahead of a possible post-World Cup move.
We covered earlier today that Martínez has even been looking for houses in Turin as Juventus push to get a deal done. That has only strengthened the idea that Villa may need to prepare for a major change in goal.
Still, A Bola make clear the club do not exclude the need to enter the market for a goalkeeper. That depends on Trubin.
Samuel Soares, a product of Benfica’s academy, is currently the second-choice option. The squad are due back for work on June 25th, which gives Benfica a clear calendar marker as they monitor whether interest in Trubin turns into a real offer.
In the end, the message from Portugal is becoming clearer with every report. Trubin has been sounded out, Benfica are not closing the door, and the Premier League is his preferred route. Now Aston Villa are said to be the most attentive club. We’ll see how this unfolds.
