Between Aston Villa and Everton, it’s clear that one club’s future is a bit more stable than the other’s.

The Villans are currently comfortable in mid-table of the Premier League with Steven Gerrard at the helm, while the Toffees are battling against relegation under Frank Lampard.

On the transfer market, one is mulling over the potential permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho, while the other is considering having to let some of their stars go if they end up being relegated.

That’s why seeing them linked with the same player is a bit strange, but, then again, Everton have every right to be optimistic, because they have eight games to go, have games in hand on those below them and are three points clear of the relegation zone.

The man in question is Kalidou Koulibaly, with Il Mattino, relayed by Calcio Napoli 24, claiming that both Aston Villa and the Toffees have made ‘requests’ about the centre-back, who could be in his final year in Naples.

That’s because his contract comes to an end in 2023, and this could be the final chance for the Serie A side to cash in, especially since he’s 30.

However, for now, ‘everything is closed’ because Napoli are still in with a remote chance of winning Serie A and the club aren’t interested in sitting down to talk transfer just yet.

Whether either Aston Villa or Everton would be enough to match Koulibaly’s ambitions remains to be seen, but we all know that, as things stand, one club has a better than the other to convince him.
