New York Red Bulls’ Mohammed Sofo is on Aston Villa’s transfer radar, according to Africa Foot.
The MLS side initially signed the forward for their reserve team from Malian side Guidars FC in 2023 and promoted him to their first team a year later.
Sofo has been a regular this year, scoring seven goals and contributing an assist from 30 matches. Africa Foot say he’s been one of the breakout stars of this MLS season and has attracted interest from European clubs.
Aston Villa are among them and have followed him closely for most of this calendar year. The report adds the Ghanian is also attracting interest from VfB Stuttgart.
Unai Emery’s side have already taken action, looking to get ahead of other clubs in the signing race.
It’s claimed the Premier League side have contacted New York Red Bulls directors to try and reach an agreement.
Africa Foot don’t specify whether the American club, Sofo or both are in favour of doing business with Aston Villa. It’s also not mentioned whether the Villans are looking at him for the winter market or next summer.
Sofo has a contract until 2026, with an option for another two years. Transfermarkt currently values him at €1m, but New York Red Bulls are likely to demand much more to sell.
