In the news for all the wrong reasons on the pitch last season, Aston Villa also had some off the pitch problems to sort out, including one involving Joleon Lescott.
The centre-back wasn’t exactly the most loved player at Villa Park, and his ‘accidental’ tweet of an expensive car just after his side got thumped 6-0 by Liverpool didn’t help much in the slightest.
Claiming it was a ‘pocket tweet’ (very difficult with touchscreen phones, let’s be honest), the defender is now set to move to Rangers FC, with a medical scheduled on Thursday evening.
The prospect of seeing the back of the former Manchester City player has certainly brought some joy to Villa fans, but Dr Tony Xia, the club’s new owner, was the bearer of bad news regarding the transfer.
No. Sorry for that. We have agreed to cover part of his wage of the one year contract left. https://t.co/m23W7iGpgb

Don’t worry, he’s still going to the Ibrox, but the Championship club won’t be getting any money for him, and, if that wasn’t bad enough, Aston Villa have also agreed to cover part of his wages for the one-year he had left at the club.
It’s not an ideal situation, but judging by the responses to that tweet, paying part of his wages is a good compromise if it means waving him goodbye.
Eesh.
