There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Aston Villa are closing in on Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida.

The Premier League side have linked the Croatia international in recent weeks as Dean Smith looks to bolster his defensive options in this transfer window.

Fotospor today report on the latest developments regarding Aston Villa’s pursuit of Vida and they say the club are in the last stages of getting a deal done. The defender reportedly wants to leave the Super Lig side and the club’s president is also open to offloading him due to his high salary.

However, Ahmet Nur Çebi is looking for offers in the region of €10m, but Aston Villa have only tabled a bid of €6m. Despite this Cebi has made it a priority to sell the Croatian in this window and subsequently could listen to offers below the player’s valuation.

The Turkish side need to sell some of their players if they want to bring in new additions in January and Vida is getting all the attention.

He’s contracted to Besiktas until June 2022.
